Prep & workspace considerations

Suggested items you’ll need

  • Preservative-free saline

  • Removal plunger (DMV Ultra for most users)

  • Towel

  • Mirror (for some users)

Wash & dry

WASH: Remember to use moisturizer free hand soap only.

DRY: Dry hands thoroughly. Avoiding water on your lenses is important before lens removal, not just before lens application. Most disinfection solutions are not effective for eradicating acanthamoeba.

Preventing lens loss and breakage

Lenses are more likely to be lost or broken during removal than during application. The force of released suction on the eye can send a lens flying if it is not suctioned to the remover or falls off. Scleral lenses also bounce and can be very difficult to find.

  • Cover drains.

  • If working over a sink, cover sink with a towel to prevent breakage from impact.

  • Lay a terry towel across your workspace. If a lens drops, the towel will prevent bouncing.
