5/15/2025 Nutrifill Recall - Safety Alert

Contamac Solutions has issued a recall notice for Nutrifill, a scleral lens filling solution due to lack of product sterility. The recall notice referred to 23 serious injuries, and Contamac states there are quality failures by the contract manufacturer.

Dry Eye Foundation recommends against the use of ANY Nutrifill, regardless of lot number.

We recommend switching to an alternative preservative-free filling solution approved by your lens provider.

If you feel that you may have been harmed by the use of Nutrifill, Dry Eye Foundation is recommending that you immediately take the following stseps:

(1) contact your eye doctor about your condition, and share the recall link with them; if you have an infection, you may ask your specialist to culture it

(2) keep your remaining solution in a cool dark dry place.

(3) report your concern to the manufacturer;

(4) report your concern to the FDA using the Medwatch reporting form.
